Our company history goes back to 1949 - it all began in the ‘Pharmaceutical Laboratory Ettlingen’ founded by pharmacist Professor Dr. Wolfram Spitzner in 1949. Pinimenthol, the key product for a successful and still proven product range for the treatment of colds, was invented here. What followed was a unique journey of ‘W. Spitzner Arzneimittelfabrik GmbH’ through the inexhaustible wealth of nature - always accompanied by a passionate commitment to the healing power of plants. Since the 1960s, we have been one of the leading providers in the field of physiotherapy and professional wellness in SPAs and premium hotels.

Thanks to the initiative and legendary inventiveness of pharmacist and managing director Professor Dr. Wolfram Spitzner, Spitzner Arzneimittelfabrik grew into a company with a global reputation within a few years. Quality was always a top priority at Spitzner. In his extensive archive, he collected recipes and equipment that bear witness to the history of pharmacy. This collection is a document of the centuries-old tradition of utilising natural products for the benefit of mankind and is a contemporary witness to his passion.

The desire to heal is as old as mankind itself. In the earliest times, medicine was in the hands of priests and sorcerers until the medical profession emerged. They initially produced the remedies from plants themselves. Recipes were passed on from generation to generation. The profession of apothecary emerged around 1100. The aim of research has always remained the same, to help where illness threatens people's health and well-being.

Since 2022, W. Spitzner Arzneimittelfabrik GmbH in Ettlingen is a family business again. In order to not only preserve this treasure trove of experience, but to deepen it further, the owners and managing directors, Andreas J. Mayer and Frank Elsen, have set themselves the task of preserving the tradition of W. Spitzner Arzneimittelfabrik and supplementing it with innovative products and processes. All with the aim of continuing to produce the best products for health and well-being in Ettlingen for generations to come. The entire production process is still carried out in the company's own pharmaceutical production facility, in accordance with the strictly controlled manufacturing specifications for Spitzner products.
